Designing the Qeshm City Museum — Integrating Climate-Responsive and Context-Sensitive Architecture to Foster Social Interaction
The Qeshm City Museum was developed as an academic project aimed at creating a cultural hub that reflects local identity while addressing the environmental challenges of a hot, humid island climate.
The design process integrated parametric and performance-based methods to explore multiple scenarios shaped by site orientation, prevailing winds, and solar paths. Climate analysis and simulation tools were applied to optimize energy performance, daylight quality, and natural ventilation, ensuring environmental responsiveness while enriching visitors’ spatial experience.
The museum was envisioned as a catalyst for social interaction and community engagement, offering flexible galleries, educational spaces, and public courtyards. Recognized for its innovative and sustainable approach, the proposal was officially endorsed by the Qeshm Free Zone Authority as the selected scheme for the city’s central museum.
