House No.45

Adaptive reuse at a domestic scale: sustainable renovation as a tool for well-being.
Research Focus: Domestic Retrofit for Wellbeing.
How can spatial reconfiguration and low-impact retrofits in compact apartments improve daylight, ventilation, thermal comfort, and sense of belonging while lowering operational energy?

HOUSE No. 45, located in Shiraz, Iran, involved the adaptive renovation of an outdated apartment into a healthier, more efficient living environment.
The intervention reorganized internal partitions to create open, flexible spaces that maximize daylight and natural ventilation.

User-centered design principles guided every stage—from improving thermal comfort and circulation flow to integrating efficient mechanical systems that reduce energy demand.

By aligning spatial quality with contemporary lifestyles, the project redefined domestic living as a balance between functionality, comfort, and sustainability.
